One girl is quirky; the other one is trendy.
One loves books; the other one loves movies.
One hates to spend money; the other one loves spending every penny she has.
One’s hair is naturally blond but currently dyed black; the other’s is naturally brown, but currently dyed blond.
One is freakishly fond of My Little Pony; the other is freakishly fond of The Vampire Diaries.
One hates sports; the other one plays on the volleyball team.
One won’t eat sugar; the other one won’t eat fruit.
One is always getting lost; the other one always knows where she is.
What do they have in common? Not much, on the outside.
But they both have generous hearts, and they are both very precious to me.

They are both wonderful! And so good to each other, too, which is heartwarming.

This is what comes when parents see, celebrate, respect and enjoy the uniqueness of their children!! XXOO
I found this shift of tnikhing about diversity to be interesting. I am African American and I love who I am, and I wouldn’t want to be anybody eles. Sometimes I am aware that I don’t want to blend and admit commonalities with those who are not AA. I am afraid of loosing or melting in to the big stew pot. Just as Jewish people want people never to forget what happened to them in Germany, I don’t people to forget or to stop tnikhing about how slavery impacted people generationally with deep wounds that most AA haven’t come to recognize themselves. I know many of the younger generation really want to forget and melt. Sometimes I want to and sometimes I just don’t. Do you know what I mean? I like the concept you presented about being interested instead of tnikhing, “how strange you are”. Thank you. I hope our campany will explore these thoghts.
There’s always a tension between wanting to be yourself and wanting to fit in; between wanting to really know and understand people who are quite different from you, and wanting to just be comfortable and hang with people who are a lot like you. I hope your life has some of all of these in it. Variety gives life its spark, and sameness is relaxing. Both are good.
