I don’t have to ask Basketball Girl which of her childhood memories will be most precious to her when she looks back on her early years. I already know what they are: the time her sister jumped off a dune at Point Reyes, fell on her rear, and split her jeans right down the back; the time our parakeet decided my lip looked delicious and took a big bite out of it while I screamed at the top of my lungs and tried to shake him off; and a brand new memory from our visit to Alcatraz today, when a seagull let fly and pooped right on the front of my husband’s vest. (Unfortunately, I had wiped almost all of it off with my handkerchief before we thought of taking this photo.)
It warms my heart to know that our children are having the kind of childhood that provides many such unforgettable moments.
As for me, I was touched to find out that Alcatraz offers (very good) souvenir dark chocolate.
