The Pentathlon

This week, Basketball Girl’s class took part in a Greek Pentathlon along with seven other Waldorf schools. Nearly 200 children marched around waving silk banners, prayed for strength and skill to Zeus, Athena, and their divine colleagues, then wrestled, threw the discus and javelin, ran, and did the long jump.  Basketball Girl unleashed a truly mighty long jump.  The scene brought sentimental tears to the eyes of many an adult onlooker. (Yes, including me.  This was my second and final Pentathlon. They grow up much too fast!)

On the lighter side, there was some serious toga action among the adults. Here are two parents from Basketball Girl’s class, and her teacher on the right.
