We just spent the week in San Diego, where we went to the wild animal park, the zoo, Legoland, and the Padres’ opening day game (and generally ate our heads off in between.)
Here’s how our friend Mary stays creative during the game:
She is an ace knitter who has been on a sock binge all this year. I do envy knitters the way they can carry their work with them and pick it up anywhere. I once worked for a very rich corporate executive who caused a stir by knitting during board meetings. I would take it up myself, except that I already have expensive piles of fabric waiting around to be used. No expensive new piles of yarn for me, thank you.

I applaud your friend Mary for her bravery displayed by knitting in a public place, especially during a sporting event. If I only had the guts to do my hand quilting (applique, etc.) in front of others and during some of those “boring” activities where you’re full visual attention is not necessarily required. However, people comment on this, “oh, your just like your mother–can’t put the quilting down even for a moment.” Who wants to waste time? It’s fleeting!

I hear you, Debbie. (I always get teased for having a book with me and reading during boring moments.) I say, bring your hand quilting with you and be proud! Working on it makes life more fun for you, and your projects get done faster. If there are children around, it shows them how interesting it can be to create something with your hands.
